What is a blog? The Real meaning of Blogging

Share it Please

What is a blog, confused? Don’t be, it is something that is extremely straightforward. In simple words, a blog is a kind of a website which is most of the time arranged in the chronological order from the most recent entries at the top of the homepage to the older entries towards the bottom of the page.

Now take a look at this blog. For a different example, you probably like to check this one too (another one of mine). Okay, now you are a seasoned blog reader – at least you have gone through two blogs.

Blogs are usually not managed or written by one person (sometimes you find big teams behind blogs). The articles are often not written on specific topics (Niche we call it). From photography, to health, to recipes, to technology, to personal diaries, to the entire world you always witness something different from another. That something, internet demands and we call it uniqueness. Whole Blog communities have enabled users to learn, share, discover and circulate the knowledge that a person may have. From making friends and doing professional business with clients, it offers almost everything.

The only thing blogs commonly shares are the few features that are useful to know if you like to take the most out of it as a reader. Let’s take a look at it, briefly.

Archive:

On homepage, you might have noticed few entries or in other words blog posts. However, those entries are not all. It’s worth knowing that there is a lot of more  under the hood that might be waiting for you.  For example, a blog this is few months old has 50 different entries that have been written over the past.

When I write a post, it goes to the top of the homepage. However, when a new post is published the old one goes one number down in the list. This process is known as circling. When a post gets old it shifts to the older pages. However, this is not the end of the story. Those old articles can be found in the archives of a blog. It sounds like a dusty old library full of old books, but that’s not the case. The posts are arranged properly in a systematic manner based on days, months and years.

Comments:

Not all blogs rely on comments, but most of them do. Another name of a blog is to spread what you think about a certain thing. It is like a place where people gather all around, and shares their views and interests. Some of them are telling or advising correctly while a few are just not too close to correct. This is more like a way to give your feedback by praising the work they have put up for you. Try it now, scroll down to the bottom, select the profile which you will be using while commenting. Write your comment and publish it.

The most Ideal way to learn about blogs is to read few, and leave a comment on it. Try asking a few questions and help other if you already know the answers. Another way to learn about blogs is to start your own. You people might be thinking WTF are you mad or what. However, believe everyone can blog.

Posts:

This is the webpage where users leave their comments. The information kept in posts might get outdated this is the reason why posts have dates alongside so that users can easily understand that he might be reading too old information.  They are used for basic content update. For example, you want to update a news about latest outgoing then you would publish a post on that.

What’s My Story?

Let me share an interesting thing with you, 2 years ago I almost knew nothing about what a blog is, and how it works. I was more of a gamer rather than a marketer or a blogger. Once day, I came across a site that was fairly more than a decent website. From one blog, I discovered another blog, and started to take it more seriously than fun. After new hours, I was extremely concerned to start a blog too. I also found few free-to-use services which allow you to setup your very own blog within few seconds. It’s worth to mention that if you are about to start a blog, you should go for either WordPress or Blogger because they are the most successful open source platform.

A Blog is not where the world ends, It is the place where your thoughts of imagination goes through different homes and houses and reaches the world. We should believe in one thing, and that is “Everyone can write a Blog”.

If you are still confused, then feel free to leave your comments in the section below, and I would try to help you with most appropriate knowledge that I may have. Otherwise, shoot me an email, tweet me @Syedfaizis, or catch me on Facebook.
